Mandatory inspection: innovations, required documents and cost of the service

In 2023, mandatory maintenance for certain categories of cars was introduced in Ukraine. The inspection is carried out according to the state standard, and the list of necessary documents depends on the owner, type and purpose of the vehicle.

From September 4, there are changes in the technical inspection. And the most important of them is the introduction of an electronic protocol. The register is introduced in order to change the method of registration and technical inspection of cars. It will ensure transparency and efficiency of the procedure.

7 categories of vehicles must now undergo a mandatory technical inspection:

• large trucks with a service life of more than a year;
• buses operated for at least 2 years;
• vehicles with a service life of more than 2 years and a weight of up to 3.5 tons, transporting passengers and cargo;
• wheeled tractors with a service life of more than 2 years;
• cars used as taxis;
• specialized vehicles that transport dangerous goods.

The following will be entered into the electronic protocol: date, time and technical inspection data. A digital copy of the inspection protocol is recognized as an official document.

Mandatory documents for maintenance are:

• passport of a citizen of Ukraine;
• vehicle registration certificate (technical passport);
• for a legal entity – a copy of the state registration certificate;
• for a natural person – a power of attorney for the right to undergo technical inspection.

The cost of technical inspection in 2023, according to the experts of the Transport and Infrastructure Association, is:

• from UAH 1,120 – for passenger cars;
• from UAH 1,344 – for buses weighing more than 5 tons;
• from UAH 1,440 – for trucks weighing more than 12 tons.

Inspection of trailers will cost from UAH 1,120.
