From March 11, cars with Russian registration that entered Lithuania before September 11 will be confiscated. The rule does not apply to transport going to Kaliningrad in transit.
A transitional period is given to car owners to take out their cars. After March 11, if the car is detained, it will either be seized or forced to leave under escort to the border.
In preparation for confiscation, Lithuania is guided by the recommendations of the European Commission. At the same time, the European Parliament calls on the EU countries not to seize cars with Russian license plates, because this “discredits” the sanctions.
Lithuania, like Latvia, does not allow vehicles with the registration of the aggressor state from September 12. Since September 13, the same ban has been in effect in Estonia, since September 16 – in Finland.
